Many - if not most of us carry around a lot of excess weight in the form of water. Getting rid of the excess water is the whole point of many diets. There are even water pills designed to squeeze it out of us.
It is the loss of water that makes almost all of the fad diets successful in losing 10 pounds almost right away. They are designed to dehydrate us.
Unfortunately as soon as we quit the diet and go back to our normal patterns of drinking, the water weight comes right back. Why?
Because our body thinks we are dying of thirst and will use as little of the water as it can. It then stores as much as possible for later. This is why we get headaches and so on, our body is cutting back on the usage of the water we give it.
How do we solve that problem? WE DRINK MORE WATER! By drinking more, our body recognizes that there is no shortage and uses the water the way it should.
Plus, since there is no reason to save it up, it releases excess water. This not at all the same as being dehydrated, it's not releasing water it needs. It's releasing EXCESS water.
This is the way our body is designed to operate and we will feel much better as well as solve a whole host of aches and pains.
Funny thing, the fastest way to lose water weight is to drink more!
Now food.
What causes fat?
It's caused by the body cutting back on energy usage (metabolism) and saving up as many calories as it can - because it thinks we are starving. That's the bodies job - keep us alive by guessing when our next meal will come and using our calories accordingly.
This can be triggered by cutting way back on calories or even by eating all our daily calories at once. Either way, the body senses a problem and slows down our metabolism, causing lesser calorie usage and more storage in the form of fat.
Just like with water, more is better. The fastest way to kick start your metabolism and start to lose weight is to eat more often!
Many of us eat one or two huge meals every day. This causes huge problems that we will get into in future articles, but for now - just be aware that food works the same way as water in that your body uses as little as possible and stores the rest whenever it senses any sort of lack.
So the first step in getting your body to shed excess weight is to never let it sense any reason to store calories. Rather than getting all your calories for the day in one or two large chunks - break it up into eating 5 or 6 small meals a day.
This forces your body to constantly be metabolizing food. You will NEVER have a reason to store calories because you will NEVER sense any sort of lack.
You will be likely to eat less as well because you never feel very hungry.
Of course it's better to cut down on calories a bit, but it's possible you could eat the same foods - in the same quantities you now eat - and actually lose weight!
Today, start thinking not only about WHAT you eat on a daily basis - but WHEN you eat it.
